Sila potatoes

Home-grown Sila potatoes

Sila potatoes are a variety grown on the Sila plateau in Calabria.

From 30 April 1998 until 9 October 2010, it was part of the register of traditional Calabrian agri-food products and was later recognised as an IGP product, earning the European mark.

The notable Sila Cosentina potato, with its IGP mark, is grown on the Sila Cosentina plateau.

Among Calabria's various typical products, Sila potatoes play a central role in traditional local cuisine.

What characterises Sila potatoes and distinguishes them from other varieties is their high starch content, which not only makes them more nutritious but gives them a unique flavour.

Sila potatoes lend themselves well to numerous recipes - all you need to do is mix tradition, creativity and imagination.

Below, we recommend four typical Calabrian dishes made with Sila potatoes.
